Brand new album, ‘III’:a new start for Canadian cult metal band Sword
The band’s last album was released 35 years ago

September 26, 2022 – It’s 1986 and Sword is taking the rock and metal world by storm with its debut album, ‘Metalized’. ‘Sweet Dreams’, the band’s sophomore album is released two years later. But head banging rock fans had to wait until 2022 for the next chapter with ‘III’.
Original members Rick Hughes, Mike Plant, Dan Hughes and Mike Larock reunited and did what they do best: heavy, energetic rock, powered by Mike Plant’s sharp riffs and fierce solos, driven by the tight rhythm section of drummer Dan Hughes and bassist Mike Larock, and Rick Hughes’ voice sounding better than ever.
In the second half oh the 1980’s, Sword toured Europe and the USA with bands such as Metallica, Alice Cooper and Motörhead. After a 20-year hiatus, the band played select live dates in 2010 that proved showed the fans were ready for them: a pair of sold out shows in Québec City, a date on the Heavy Montreal Festival in 2012, and a headline spot on Germany’s Harder Than Steel festival and a sold out show at Montreal’s Club Soda. More recently, Sword was invited to play alongside Anthrax, Black Label Society and Hatebreed.
The band describes ‘(I Am)In Kommand’, the first single off ‘III’: “(I Am) In Kommand” is an anthem to self-empowerment, it takes its roots in the strong affirmation that life has got to be lived without fear or regrets. Courage and honor are the road map to acquire total control of your life, and be “In Kommand”!’
The in-your-face track ‘Dirty Pig’ is about a current topic: abuse of power, abuse of trust and a strong message to society’s real-life villains. ‘Unleashing hell is a look back at how we used to be, which is not that different from what we are right now: ‘1986 in Montreal making music and rattling walls, in our twenties and standing tall, setting fires in every hall’.
In 2022, Sword is back, stronger than ever! ‘III’ is proof and the upcoming shows will blow everyone’s minds.
